USA & CAN Arrivals Update

As of June, 2024 arrivals out of the USA are up +7.6% year-over-year. That is 102% of the 2019 (pre-pandemic) levels, indicating a full recovery from this market. The USA is currently the #1 overseas source market for 2024 (with the UK a close #2).

Arrivals from Canada are up +7.0% year-over-year, an 88% recovery of the 2019 (pre-pandemic) levels.

UNESCO Proclaims New World Heritage Sites in Western Cape and KwaZulu-Natal regions of South Africa.

UNESCO proclaims new world heritage site inscribed as The Emergence of Modern Human Behaviour: The Pleistocene Occupation Sites of South Africa, and is composed of three dispersed archaeological sites in the Western Cape and KwaZulu-Natal regions of South Africa. The sites specified are Diepkloof Rock Shelter, Pinnacle Point Site Complex and Sibhudu Cave. These three sites provide the most varied and best preserved record known of the development of modern human behaviour, reaching back as far as 162,000 years”, according to UNESCO.

Diepkloof Rock Shelter, Pinnacle Point Complex and Sibhudu Cave are key sites forming part of the The Cradle of Human Culture, an inter-provincial initiative that offers routes aiming to inform the public of the rich culture and heritage of South Africa through a journey of discovery.

This initiative guides guests, traces how Homo sapiens started to innovate culturally, socially and behaviourally. Explore the Artists' Route in the Cape West Coast (Weskus) to discover Diepkloof Rock Shelter alongside Rock Art in the Cederberg, West Coast Fossil Park, riel dancers and !Khwa ttu San Culture & Education Centre. Alternatively explore the southern Cape coastal route Coastal Journey to take in numerous different caves, which will take you on a journey to various coastal caves in the Cape Overberg and Garden Route regions, and Pinnacle Point Site Complex in Mossel Bay.

The initiative is now being expanded to KwaZulu-Natal. While Sibhudu Cave is not yet open to the public, the province is open towards ensuring that visitors can access it very soon.
